GOTA stands for Get On The Air, a radio donation program offered by the Butte County Community Emergency Response Team (BCCERT). Radio communications will work even when power, internet or cell networks fail. With radio communications many people can be reached simultaneously. During emergencies, under the direction of the Butte County Sheriff's Office, Butte County CERT radio operators rebroadcast the Sheriff's emergency alert message on General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) and amateur radio frequencies. With two-way GMRS radio, citizens can hear the emergency messages and stay in touch with others in the Butte County radio community.
Butte County CERT wants to help people Get On The Air successfully to ensure that radio communications are available when other communication tools fail.
Perhaps you already know the value of being able to use radio communications but lack funding for equipment to get started. If you need assistance with obtaining a radio, you can complete a GOTA application. Our GOTA evaluation team will consider your request and to the extent that equipment is available we will make every effort to assist those community members who will benefit the most. GOTA applicants will need to obtain their GMRS license prior to applying for GOTA assistance.
